Garnet is the birthstone of January. Commonly associated with the colour red, it can actually occur in a variety of colours including oranges, and pinkish reds, yellows, blues, and greens.

The name “Garnet” comes from the Latin word “Garanatus,”which means “seedlike,” in reference to the seeds of a pomegranate fruit.
